Lewisville Chiropractor asks… Stressed Out? … Eat Onions
The sprinkles we got Saturday didn’t slow Farmers Market traffic down, (or the produce to be picked over the next couple of weeks). Those who went looking for variety certaintly found it. Shoppers could find farm-raised meat, fresh seafood, handmade soaps, honey, breads, pasta, tea, nuts, plants and an awesome collection of farm-fresh fruits & vegetables including spinach, chard, lettuce, potatoes, beets, turnips, radishes, tomatoes, greens, strawberries, and onions.- Onions are rich in flavonoids and thus, provide protection against heart or cardiovascular disease.
- Onion has been found to be very good for those suffering from high blood pressure.
- Fresh as well as cooked onions have anti-platelet adhesiveness, which helps in preventing the formation of blood clots.
- Onion helps reduce inflammation and is therefore, beneficial for those suffering from Neuritis, Vertigo and Bronchitis.
- Onion, being a diuretic, increases the secretion of urine.
- Onions are very good for the health of hair, finger and toe nails and even the eyes.
- Onions contain a number of sulfides that help in lowering fats in the blood.
- Onions have anti-allergy properties, apart from being slightly laxative.
- Onions help drain out mucus from the cavities and loosen phlegm, in turn alleviating the symptoms of sinuscongestion.
- Onions help the body in destroying worms and other parasites.
- Researches have revealed that onions prolong longevity.
- Since onions have the property of helping lower blood sugar, they are good for those suffering from diabetes.
- The extracts of onion, being rich in a variety of sulfides, provide some protection against tumor growth.
Coppell Chiropractor explains toxins and why they are harmful.
Coppell Chiropractor, Dr. Ron Carpenter with Coppell Family Chiropractic, has been advocating changes in nutrition to eliminate toxins and improve health and wellness.
Are folks just starting to realize that there are toxins in nearly everything that we eat and touch? This isn’t something new. Let’s start with TOXINS 101:
Generally speaking, a toxin is something the body does not recognize. The body seldom even takes the risk to distinguish good from bad toxins. If the body doesn’t recognize it, it will try to destroy it. If that doesn’t work it will engulf it in a ball of fat and bury it in as deep a hole as it can, hoping you never need to burn it.
Our skin is great in helping protect us from some toxins. If the body recognizes a bad toxin it sometimes tries to push the toxins through the skin. These generally show up on your chest or back as bright red freckles. Heavy metals (i.e. aluminum in antiperspirant, mercury, arsenic in water, etc.) can be toxic, too. More importantly, because of their size (they’re larger molecules) these particles don’t easily pass through our system. They end up accumulating in our body to toxic levels over time. Did you ever see the movie Arsenic and Old Lace? That’s what accumulations of toxins in our body can do: kill cells. My suggestion? Stop exposing ourselves to chemicals that your body wasn’t born with and eliminate as many as can, in as many ways as we can. More about that later.
So someone emailed me and asked: where do these toxins come from?
Honestly, the list of where toxins are not would be a shorter list. They are in the air, our water, prescription medications, vaccinations, and food. The most toxic place we spend time everyday is our own homes. Even if a home is new enough that you don’t have to worry about radon, asbestos, and black mold, it’s likely that dust mites and pollen and other airborne agents are milling around. Also, there are arsenides in most shampoos. And, if you use an antiperspirant instead of a deodorant, you are actually blocking up your sweat glands with aluminum.
The food we eat is often packaged to extend the shelf life, which requires the use of toxins. We love sweet foods, but hate sugar and calories; so now we have artificial sweeteners (Equal, Sweet and Low, aspartame, etc.) that are many times sweeter that natural sugars and we consume many more products which contain them. And what do we call synthetic stuff the body doesn’t recognize? Toxins!
Fruits and vegetables are often picked green these days (so they don’t rot before they get to market), typically before the nutrition is in the food. Often they are artificially ripened by placing them in contact with toxins, like carbon monoxide (That turns green tomatoes cherry red, just as it would our skin if we left our car running with the garage door closed.) Prescription medications are often attempts to duplicate products found in nature that have been found to help with a medical condition. Unfortunately the medication must be unique, because a company cannot patent a natural process. So by definition all prescription meds with a proprietary name must be different from the natural process they are trying to replicate–by at least 17 percent. Bottom line is you need to get into the habit of turning a product around and reading the label. You shouldn’t have to be a scientist to read it, and products are listed in the order of their amount, i.e., the first ingredient listed is the one that has the highest concentration, the second is the second most plentiful,…..so on, so on.
Bottom line, you need to pay attention, not everyone has your back!

Coppell Chiropractor shares his thoughts… Nobody Said I Would Die!
Dr. Ron Carpenter, a Coppell Chiropractor, share thoughts on a serious subject, taking responsibility for your own health and wellness.
I need to apologize ahead of time…..because I am about to rant.
I got an email asking my opinion on synthetic sugars, Aspartame to be exact. It just so happens I do have an opinion on this…….and you won’t have to be an attorney to understand which way I’m leaning on this one.
I spoke earlier of toxins, and I believe the very easiest way to get good food without toxins is to get food that God made. It seems the more some clever guy in a lab coat fiddles around with something, the better chance it has of being dangerous.
Back to synthetic sugars, I don’t like them, not one little bit. I don’t like them on a plane, I don’t like them on a train, I’m not mean, I just hate phenylalanine. Aspartame, 1981, (Nutrasweet, Equal, Spoonful) has mixed the addictive quality of Asartate, a product that excites cells in our brain and are related to our “cravings”, with a product that turns into formaldyhyde as we ingest it, making it toxic. It is being investigated for “The Gulf War Syndrome” as well as possibly being linked to several types of cancers and tumor formations. The folks at Splenda, 1998, took the non-nutritive form of sugar, sucrose and combined it with chlorine. I guess so our teeth will be whiter after eating a lot of it. WOW, does this seem way out of bounds for a food product approved by the FDA!
You already know when you need a surgey or drug and can’t get it here, people go to Mexico or other countries to receive care…..Well, in Mexico you can’t advertise with the word “Nutra” as it is misleading, and children and pregnant women are forbidden by law from consuming Aspartame. The Mexican government must not have read all that clever research the guy in the lab coat that works for one of these companies produced. I am from Oklahoma and don’t believe in conspiricies as a general rule, but wouldn’t this be a fun one to research? Join the cause! NO SYNTHETIC SUGAR, actually no synthetic anything for your body, save the synthetics for your car.

What do we do about it now?
It amazes me how some people wait a week or two to evaluate an injury, they just keep going when their body is screaming at them to stop. THAT IS WHAT SYMPTOMS ARE. We grow up being taught to “walk it off”, or “get back up on the horse” , and that’s what people do, thinking it’s going to go away like it did last time. Except this time it didn’t.
There comes a time in everyone’s life when the road is too narrow to turn the truck around. If you had the money in your pocket to pay off the US National Debt, you wouldn’t have enough money to get your health back when it’s gone. Yet it’s one of the simplest things to fix, if we perform a little maintenance from time to time. We wouldn’t think twice about what to do if their “check engine light” came on in their car, but we sometimes refuse to take responsibility for our health when our own body tells us we’re in trouble.
Educate yourself. We need to reclaim responsibility for our health and read more about the products you put into or onto your body. The folks in TV commercials are not our advocates. They all work for the people trying to sell us stuff. Read labels and don’t let crap litter up YOUR temple. Our brain and our body work together in an ingenious way to convert whatever trash or trauma we throw at it, into fuel—don’t make it work so hard.
I’m not as techno-savvy as I would like, but do you remember the acronym GIGO? Garbage in Garbage out. It doesn’t just apply to computers. The body is an amazing machine, but if we put products in our car with the same respect most of us currently use with our body, we would all be walking to work every day. Most of the stuff I have shared with you today, you already knew. You knew continuing to throw non-nutritious things into our body will have long term effects.
The problem is, once our body becomes toxic, our body starts to fight with itself. These cancers and tumors and diseases are called auto-immune diseases, and once the body turns on itself, there are no medical interventions that can easily restore health to the system. At that point you are likely to become a statistic. Today though you can stop doing what you did yesterday. It’s not just opposable thumbs that make us cool, it’s free will and individual responsibility. We need to OWN our health, like we need to OWN the other important areas in our life. We need to regain our balance back.

Lewisville Chiropractor offers ways to eliminate toxins from your body
Lewisville Chiropractor Dr. Ron Carpenter continues with his series of articles about toxins effects on health and wellness and ways to get rid of toxins.
Now that I’ve raised your blood pressure and concern about toxins being everywhere, let’s get this problem solved. How can I get rid of toxins?
Not as hard as you might think. Most people understand that a large risk involves our largest organ, the skin. We are literally swimming around in toxins most of everyday, and our layers of skin do a remarkable job keeping us safe from most toxins.
Nearly just as important is our second largest organ, the liver. Of its many jobs, one of the most critical is its ability to pull toxins out of everything that passes through it. Think of it like a car filter that screens out junk so your car doesn’t get tore up. What happens though when those filters get clogged with junk? Our car quits running well, and so do we.
You can go to an auto parts store and get a new filter for less than 20 bucks. Livers are a bit harder to find, and considerably more expensive. We need to cleanse our liver at least twice a year, whether we live on a farm or a major metro-plex like DFW.
They’re many different “cleansing” products. Read the paragraph above again about reading labels, and then apply some common sense. Is a 7 day, $20 liver cleanse the same as a $200 liver cleanse that works over a month? Probably not. One of the two cleanses we recommend researching, simply stated, is one of the (a) least expensive, (b) longest working, and (c) hardest to complete……but one of the best cleanses you can do. You consume Lemon or Lime- Aide……only. You’re already on the computer, look up the “Master Cleanse” or the “Lemonade Diet”. It’s amazing….. and AFTER you can make it the first 4-5 days you will love it. You will feel better, have more energy and feel like wrestling a bear.
There is a second cleanse we recommend that takes 21 days to complete, and you supplement a simpler eating regimen that doesn’t re-offend the liver while your cleaning it….(read smoothies and salads)
These cleanses aren’t “diets” but if you eat healthier foods, and combine that with cleaning out the sludge in your system from stem to stern, and well, it’s not very tough math to figure out you might lose some weight. As a matter of fact don’t be surprised if you lose a pound a day over the course of the cleanse.
Other (and somewhat more costly) ways to get toxins out of your system include using a hyperbaric chamber to push toxins out of your system, or an infa-red (dry) sauna that uses the same pores of your skin to weep out toxins with your sweat. There are also de-toxifying foot baths that work very well by drawing toxins through the largest pores in your body….the ones on the soles of your feet. There are also footpads you can place in your shoes that claim to do the same thing. Using Epson salts in your bath is a natural form of chelation (removal of toxins), so is including more cilantro (coriander) in your diet. Yum, Yum.
Call us if you’re interested in a cleanse. We’ll even provide you with the name of other patients who can discuss the benefits they have experienced.
