Like many of you, I am a member of several local networking and referral groups that meet on a weekly or monthly basis.

I think that the benefit of these groups is that they give you a convenient place to build relationships with other businesses with whom you become comfortable referring business. These kinds of groups are an excellent network within which you can build a BLOG Network.

A BLOG Network is a group of BLOGS which have links between themselves. The concept is very simple and is best explained by an example:

Assume that you are in a weekly Referral Group with 10 other people. Each of those people set up a BLOG and post entries on the topics that pertain to their businesses. Each of the BLOGs invite each of the other Referral Group Members to post comments with links back to the Commentators BLOG and Website.

Presume that you comment on three BLOGS in your Referral Group each week. If each of your Comments have a link to both your BLOG, your Website, and another BLOG in the group you are establishing 2 inbound links to your website, and 1 inbound link to someone else’s website in the group. The 1st Link is from the other BLOG to your BLOG. The 2nd Link is from the other BLOG to your website. The 3rd Link is from the other BLOG to another BLOG which you also post Comments upon. Indirectly, that 3rd Link leads to two additional links to your BLOG or Website.

If you do this for all 10 BLOGS in your Referral Group you are creating a web of links within a BLOG network. If each of the members of your Referral Group are doing the same thing then you are each helping to promote each other to the Search Engines and you have take your individual 10 websites, multiplied that internet footprint by a factor of 2 (one blog and one website each) resulting in 20 websites, but you have built a network in interlinking BLOGs and Website which is equivalent to 60 websites because you have at least 3 inbound links from within the network of BLOGS.

By employing the above technique you can cooperate with your Referral Group and help each other to elevate your Search Engine Optimization by an order of magnitude greater than you can without the cooperation of a similar group of network partners.

As a general rule of thumb, if your current Google Page Rank (not the position on Google) is a ‘0’ having 10 inbound links may be enough to elevate you to a Page Rank of ‘1’. If you are a Page Rank of ‘1’ you may be able to move to a Page Rank of ‘2’ with another 20-30 inbound links. Traffic is also important so visiting each other’s BLOGs and Websites each week is a great ‘service’ that you can exchange with your Network ‘partners’.

Search Engines LOVE BLOGS because of the tendency for BLOGS to have timely and relevant content to the search being performed. By building a BLOG Network you can significantly elevate the visibility of your BLOG and your Website with a very small investment of time.

Dallas Office Furniture Consulting Designer discusses carbon footprint

Dallas Office Furniture Consulting Designer Jeannie Norris with BH Office Solutions discusses Power Usage and Your Carbon Footprint.

Recently a medium-sized business with less than 150 employees made a company-wide decision to decrease their “carbon footprint”.  Most of the employees (100) occupied modular workstations that had been in place for almost 7 years and hadn’t come close to needing to be replaced.

The company had installed occupancy sensors on all the enclosed offices to decrease power usage and air conditioning costs.  They had also replaced all the overhead lighting with more efficient fluorescent bulbs.  But they didn’t know how to impact the 100 workstations.

After doing a survey of their space, it was determined they had magnetic ballast task lights in all of their workstations.  We also determined that more than 50% of their employees NEVER turned their task lights off at the end of the day and almost everyone left them on when they were out of the office.

We suggested they replace the existing task lights with new energy-efficient electronic ballast lights with occupancy sensors similar to the sensors in their enclosed office spaces.  Even though there would be an initial investment in new lighting, the company realized they could achieve their objective of less power usage per employee by doing this replacement. (see table below)

The company is going forward with the light replacements to complete the first phase of decreasing their “carbon footprint”.  To learn how your company can utilize this simple savings, please contact us at info@bhofficesolutions.com

Dallas Office Furniture Solutions provided by BH Office Solutions can help when you need to expand.

    • Are you considering Moving?
    • Is your business Growing?

Both of these situations require the same thing – space planning.  Moving to a new space because your business is growing might not be necessary.  A re-allocation of existing space could save you all the grief and cost of moving your business!  But, how will you know if your current space will allow the needed growth?  Space planning!

B&H Office Solutions will work with you to inventory your existing furniture, suggest options for changing the space, provide the best value on additional products (new or pre-owned) and give you a professional drawing of your offices.

The case study drawing is an actual client who opened an office in a “strip” office center in a great Dallas location.  When he originally took the space it was a sub-let without the option of doing any tenant improvements.  As his business was in a start-up phase, the existing space was perfect for his staff – in fact he actually had a couple of extra work areas.

Three years later, the lease is up and he has grown to fill all the existing work areas and even has people working on folding tables in any open space.  He didn’t want to move, as his clients knew where he was located and the rent was not as high as in other buildings in the area.

We worked with the client to increase his staff work areas by 40% WITHOUT the addition of any square footage.  The landlord agreed to the tenant changes (taking out all the walls, relocating power)– he even provided new carpeting for the entire suite! Our client is set for 5 more years.
