Fort Worth Southlake Colleyville Landscaper Tips and Tricks for Spring

Fort Worth, Southlake, and Colleyville Landscaper, (Harvest Landscape) offers Tips and Tricks for Spring plantings and yard care.

The rainy season is here!  The recent spring rainfall has given plants a good watering; but with young leaves still developing, plants, trees and shrubs are vulnerable to insects and fungal infections at this time.  Soon the dry, hot and humid weather will return and bring with it a host of new potential problems. Harvest Landscape Services would like to offer you these important tips!

  • Due to the cool, rainy weather, leaf spot has become a big issue especially on Photinias, Hawthorn, and Cleyera.  It’s important to keep the fallen leaves out of the beds to minimize the spread of the disease. Let us know if you are having problems and we’ll be happy to help.  Don’t forget to cut back on the water!
  • Another problem starting this time of year, especially with all the rain, is slugs and snails.  It’s a good idea to treat your beds for them along with other types of insects that have started to become active.  This will keep them from killing your newly planted annuals.
  • We recommend that you turn your sprinkler systems off unless you have new root plantings in your yard or beds.  The cool, rainy weather pattern we are experiencing can cause quite a few problems.
  • Spider mites are really bad right now as well. Keep an eye on all of Junipers, Cedars, and Cypress!  They can get out of hand quickly.
  • It is grub preventative time!  June bugs lay eggs in May and June and the larvae feed on the roots of the turf from late June thru October.  They can’t distinguish between turf types!  There is no way to tell if, or how much damage they will cause until it’s too late. When it gets late in the season, the turf is not growing aggressively due to the heat, which makes it extremely difficult to repair the damage with fertilization and cultural practices.  Feel free to contact us if you would like to have a grub preventative applied to your lawn.
  • We’ve seen chinch bugs this week! Be on the lookout for browning, it could be from brown patch or chinch bugs right now.

Harvest Landscape Services recommends an Integrated Pest Management program.  Contact us today to see how we can help!
