Frisco Fence Company talks about spring storms and fence repairs. February 05, 2010
Frisco Fence Company owner, Sean Eubanks, President of Texas State Fence Co., sees increase is fence repair requests each spring.
Spring storms tend to come through the North Texas area each year and at least one or two of those storms generate tremendous damage to fences. Straight line winds of up to 80 miles per hour are not uncommon and rotational wind events are also frequently reported. Every year Spring storms damage hundreds of fences in North Texas. Typical damages range from the level of a few pickets blown out of a panel up to complete failure of posts and hangers causing total loss of fence rows in the worst cases.
It is interesting to note that fences constructed with steel posts set in concrete have a much higher survival [more info...]

Denton Pest Control Service offers advice on Kill on Contact Pesticides. February 01, 2010
Denton Pest Control Service owner Blake Williams of Service 1st Pest and Lawn offers advice on Kill on Contact Pesticides.
A common myth concerning pesticides is that the stronger they are the quicker the kill and the better the control. This is mostly false.
Contact killers are what most people think of when they think of insecticides. As soon as the insect is exposed to the chemical they expect the insect to stop dead in their tracks. The usage of this type of pesticide is very ineffective for various reasons.
Pesticides that kill on contact are very problematic because you are prone to attack symptoms of the problem rather than the root cause of your infestation.

Here are Some Basic Considerations
The initial decisions that you will need to make are basically very simple.
You will need to choose a fence style that fits your aesthetic desires.
You will need to consider Zoning and HOA restrictions.
You will need to establish a budget.
You will need to consider your ability to handle the construction required.
You will need to decide on materials for the project.

Denton Pest Control Service owner Blake Williams offers some advice about Trees.
I am often asked questions about trees. Although I am not an Arborist I have learned a few things about trees over the several years I have been in the Pest Control and Lawn Care business. One of the most common misconceptions I hear about trees is when a tree dies and Termites or Carpenter Ants are found in the dead tree people will assume the the Termites or Carpenter Ants killd the tree. This is almost never the case. These insects only attack wood that is already dead. Termites do not feed on green or living wood material and Carpenter Ants only nest in the dead parts of trees. The fact is that when Termites or Carpenter Ants are attacking a tree [more info...]

The pace of change is accelerating and in these modern times fences have become increasingly popular. Back in the 1950s and 1960s many of the homes in urban communities did not have a fence in their back yards. There was nothing to separate neighbors from each other. Since the 1960s the number of homes with back yard privacy fencing has increased to become well over 90 percent in urban cities such as Frisco Texas.

Allen Fence Company: How to build around trees and obstacles. January 09, 2010
Allen Fence Company owner Sean Eubanks, President of Texas State Fence Co., provides some tips for building around trees and other obstacles.
Obviously the best course of action is to plan your fence so that the fence line avoids obstacles such as trees, boulders, and other immovable objects. When that is not possible you can make some adjustments to minimize the impact of the obstacle.
In some cases you can create a little bump-out in the fence line to pass around the obstacle. If you must include the obstacle in the fence line, and if the fence includes posts, then you may find it useful to tinker with the framing plan on a scaled elevation. If the obstacle is a tree you will likely be tempted to simply fasten the fence to the tr [more info...]

Denton Pest Control Service owner Blake Williams offers some advice about Starting the New Year Right.
January and February is the time people begin thinking about their service providers for lawn care and pest control. Remember the best way to keep your lawn green and weed free is timely and consistent applications of fertilizer and herbicides. It is generally cheaper for the home owner to hire a licensed applicator to take care of the fertilizer and herbicide. By the time the home owner purchases the required products and equipment he has spent more than the service provider would charge. In addition, most home owners do not make the required applications at the right time and end up frustrated with weeds and thin turf.

Mention the word fence and most people conjure up an image of a wood fence. While you can build a fence out of many materials other than wood the most common material, especially for residential properties in urban areas, is wood. Wood is a beautiful material that can be easily worked and manipulated to form a nearly unlimited number of styles. Wood is a material with which most people have some experience and which, at a basic level, requires virtually no experience to work with.
People have been building fences out of wood for thousands of years. It is very likely that the first fences were made with either wo [more info...]

With the rising number of people who suffer from allergies and asthma, indoor air quality has become more and more important to our general health and well-being.

For a variety of reasons most people succumb to relatively basic fence designs, primarily due to the lower cost of going with a mass market sort of fence. For most people cost is the single major consideration in fence design and selection.

Carpenter ants are a common sight around Texas homes throughout the year. Although their natural nesting sites are in trees, carpenter ants can also invade and live indoors. Texas carpenter ant species are not usually destructive to homes, however they can become a nuisance.
Carpenter ants are often first noticed in late winter and early spring. This is the time when carpenter ants and other ants emerge to mate and attempt to start new colonies. These reproductive forms are identified by their two pairs of wings and relatively large size. The presence of winged ants indoors generally means that a nest is located in the structure.

Insects settle in for the winter and then lay and wait for that perfect moment to attack again next spring. But its best to "Be Prepared" my scoutmaster taught me years ago. Pretty much all fences have one thing in common... you have to dig holes. About the only type of fence that is not true of is field-stone fences. Even fences made with concrete blocks need to have a foundation that requires digging holes at some point along the fence line.
Before you pick up a shovel make sure that you know what you might find under the surface. Common obstacles include irrigation lines, septic tanks and drainage fields, telephone lines, sewer lines, cable television lines, power l [more info...]

Denton Pest Control Service can help control seasonal Cricket and Ground Beatle pests. October 27, 2009
Denton Pest Control Service owner Blake Williams offers some advice about crickets in North Texas.
Normally crickets live outdoors where their diet consists primarily of wild grasses, small weeds, and leaf litter, dead insects and organic materials. When these natural food sources dry up-usually in the late summer or fall-the crickets may begin migrating in large numbers, randomly invading homes and other buildings in their paths. Summer rains after a period of drought may also trigger migrations.
When the environmental conditions are just right (a prolonged wet spring season which promotes the growth of an abundance of weeds and grasses) the cricket population can build up into astronomical numbers. When fall comes and their habi [more info...]
Denton Pest Control Service asks: Do you have a small fly problem? October 27, 2009
Denton Pest Control Service owner Blake Williams, President of Service 1st Pest and Lawn Management, gives some advice on how to get rid of those pesky small flies in your kitchen area.
You must remove the food source and eliminate breeding areas to achieve control of fruit flies, fungus nats and phorid flies. These small flies have a life-cycle of 10 days; sanitation is the only effective resolution. Service 1st Pest and Lawn can perform a chemical treatment and/or place traps, but this will only kill adults and briefly knock down the population. The breeding cycle must be broken with good sanitation.
Address these frequent problems:
Clean floor drains well. This is the main harborage area for fruit flies and phorid flies.

Our Spring season can be a little windy and we do get the occasionally wind storm. Hail storms are also not uncommon, but, we are fortunate not to have too many tornado's in the North Texas area. That is a threat that our neighbors to the north suffer more than we do.

There are many potential benefits of automatic gates as described by Frisco Fence Company owner Sean Eubanks, President of Texas State Fence Company.
The three main reasons that people install automatic gates on their home driveway are:
1) Security: An electric driveway gate completes the security perimter of your property and when properly connected to a high wall or fence can be a strong deterrent to unwanted entry. This is especially true of the casual, opportunistic form of home invasion or burglary. If you do not have a solid gate there is very little benefit of having a solid fence around your home. If you leave your gates open all of the time because of the inconvenience of getting out to open and close the gates you have a mu [more info...]

Q: How often does my furnace need a check-up?
A: All manufacturers recommend annual maintenance by a trained service technician. On a gas furnace, this helps ensure safe and efficient operation. If you have an oil furnace, yearly tune-ups are a must due to the dirty fuel and a more sensitive burn cycle. A modern oil furnace that is not maintained can drop efficiency from 80% to 50-60% in just two years. Clogged fuel filters can lead to fuel pump failure. A dirty burner can cause soot buildup in the heat exchanger and chimney, requiring an expensive chimney cleaning. An annua [more info...]

Allen fence company owner Sean Eubanks (owner of Texas State Fence Co.) provides these guidelines for digging and setting fence posts.
Digging Post Holes
The general rule of digging post holes is to set the post into the ground at least 1/3 of the depth of the overall length of the post. For example, if you have a 6 foot tall fence you want a 9 foot post that will be buried at least 3 foot into the ground. If you have an 8 foot tall fence you will want posts that are 12 foot long and you will want to set the posts at least 4 foot deep in the ground. Corner posts and gate posts should be set at least six (6) inches deeper due to the added structural load that those posts will carry.

Installing Fences on Sloped Terrain
In North Texas most yards have a fairly level grade, however, even local property owners can have gentle slopes to contend with. Slopes provide some unique problems and may require an adjustment in the selection of the style of fence. There are basically two methods for dealing with slopes when installing fences:
Step Method - Preassembled panels can only be installed using the Step Method. It is common to use earth berms or landscape elements to compensate for the spaces left under the downhill side of the panels.

Preparation
The first thing you must do is check with local authorities to make sure that you know what the building codes and home owner association policies are. Be sure to contact local utility companies and find out where underground utilities are buried. The last thing you want to do is start digging and run into a utility line. It is also good advice to consult with your neighbors and make sure that you are not overlooking a concern that would impact your design or layout decisions.

Basic Considerations
The basic decisions that you must make are really very simple. For the moment lets simplify the process and presume that you have decided on a traditional wood fence. In other articles we will discuss the other alternatives including fences made with Chain Link, Pole, Rail, Iron, Concrete, Brick, Cinder Block, Vinyl, Steel, and with Landscape Elements.

Frisco Fence Company, Texas State Fence Company, owner Sean Eubanks, provides aluminum fencing to both residential and commercial clients in North Texas.
Aluminum is highly regarded as a construction material due to its light weight and ease of working. As a material for airplane and pleasure boat construction it has been used for many years. As a material for fence construction it is only recently becoming a major material.
Aluminum is very light but has issues with strength so if you are interested in fencing as a security system component aluminum may not be your best choice.
