This time of year we always get a few calls concerning skunks around the house. This usually occurs when skunks are looking for a place to over winter.  The chances that Skunks will set up house near you are increased if there is a food source, especially trash dumpsters.  Most of the time they will dig and nest uner porches or in crawl spaces.

Skunks are relatively easy to live trap.  Removeing them is the hard part.  Canned pet food or sardines work well as bait.  Once you have them in the trap, get a dark colored bed sheet and slowly approach the trap holding the sheet up so the skunk cannot see you. throw the sheet over the trap.  Most of the time, once the trap is covered the skunk will not spray.  Call animal control to pick up the animal.  It is illegal to catch and release skunks without a permit. Most of the time they will be euthanized.
