Plano Fence Company offers advice on building a privacy fence.

Plano Fence Company (Texas State Fence Company) offers some simply consideration for privacy fencing which may include both wood or vinyl fencing and landscape elements.

Living in today’s crowded suburban environment often means that our outside living area, the back yard, is so close to neighbors that we desire to have a little added privacy. Fencing can be a valuable part of your landscape, can actually add value to your property, and can have the added benefit of being both aesthetically pleasing as well as functional.

The first thing to consider when thinking about privacy fencing is whether to use traditional fencing or to use landscape elements such as trees and shrubs. Privacy fencing is usually some sort of wood fence that offers a visual screen such as a board-on-board fence or a stockade style fence. Depending on the particulars of your yard configuration it may not be necessary to install a fence along the entire lot line to achieve your goals.

Landscape elements such as trees, shrubs, earthen berms, and other naturally occurring elements may be integrated into a traditional wood fence construction plan to create truly unique environments. It is not a question of needing to ‘hide’ from prying eyes, but more a matter of providing a level of personal comfort that is in keeping with the needs of your family and within the bounds of the local zoning or home owner association rules. Always check HOA rules before embarking on a construction project such as a privacy fence.

Building a privacy fence out of wood or vinyl or masonry can provide nearly instant privacy and has the added benefit of being nearly maintenance free. Additionally you do not have to wait for plants to grow into their mature size, nor do you have to maintain them, water them, trim them, nor treat them for insects, etc.

Building a privacy fence primarily out of landscape elements such as trees, shrubs and earthen berms is considered by some to be more environmentally soothing but comes with a cost of maintenance over the years, along with the issue of growing the plants to maturity. Do you spend the extra money for larger plants now to give the immediate screening benefit or do you save money now at the cost of waiting for a longer period for the plants to grow together and provide the screening you want.  One solution is to integrate both traditional ‘hard’ fencing elements with ‘soft’ landscape elements.
